Our latest job was Boiler installation in Sheffield , which involved a chimney sweep.
Carrying on from previous post
This is a follow on to a previous post where we removed the old leaking boiler stove . The boiler stove had been in since the 70’s. From the soot up the chimney it looked like it hadn’t been swept for that amount of time either .
After removing the old multifuel boiler stove and flue it was time to re route and position the pipework . This was due the new stove being smaller.
The overflow tank in the loft was changed also to current regulations . The overflow pipe was upgraded from plastic to copper . This prevents the pipe melting in the event of an over fire .
The old debris plate was removed and replaced with a new metal one.
Fitting a new liner
A new 904/904 flue liner was fitted . This was after we had to core ball the chimney with a 7” ball . Without this we would not have been able to get the liner down .
With the liner eventually down we set about fitting the Stratford Arada eb9 multifuel boiler stove. The flue liner was cut to length and adaptor fitted so it could be fitted to the vitreous stove pipe . This is the pipe that connects the stove to the liner . This effectively creates a new chimney for the boiler stove . Next was to create the fitting of the liner to the chimney pot . With it cut to length the liner was connected to the all weather cowl and fitted to the existing chimney pot.
Filling up and testing the system
With the overflow and fill tank fitted and boiler stove now in place it was time to fill the system up and test . The system filled really quickly with no issues . We lit a small fire and waited for the water to warm up . Which didn’t take long at all due to the unique set up of the boiler . You get a 50% quicker heat up time on these boilers .
On this system all the upstairs radiators as well as the cylinder are on gravity circulation . I.E . they all get hot just from natural circulation as the water warms up it moves round and heats everything up .
On the flow pipe we have fitted a pipe thermostat to turn the pump on. The pipe thermostat only turns pump on at a pre determined temperature . It does this so the boiler can get up to temperature and prevent condensation in the boiler . This prevents premature aging and rotting of the boiler .
After only 10 minutes the pump kicked in and radiators downstairs started to get warm . With the system fully working . We explained the system to the customer , including new controls and no need to manually turn the pump on anymore .
This was an enjoyable job and the customers are more than happy with the end result .
